Process of Mobile Number Portability Service in India

If you are not happy with current service provider or want to change the service provider, now it can be done very easily with few steps.

  • You need to generate a Unique Porting Code (UPC) to start the MNP process. So you need to send an SMS to 1900 to get the UPC. Send an SMS to 1900 with "PORT [Space] [Existing Mobile Number]". For example: PORT 9346283049 to 1900.

  • You will receive a Unique Porting Code in reply to the above SMS. You will receive the UPS as SMS from 1901. Here you will find a 8-digit alpha numeric UPC and also UPC expiry date. So if you are not using the UPC code before expiry date, it can not be used. You need to provide this UPC code to the new service provider.

  • You need to provide this UPC code to the desired service provider by filling up the required form with UPC code with proper identity proofs and other documents with nominal fee of Rs.19/- only.

  • The new service provider will provide a new SIM card within 4 days.

  • Now it is the responsibility of the new service provider to change your network. The Service provider will contact you and notify you about the actual start date of portability. The new service provider will contact old service provider by sending a SMS informing about porting and date of porting.

  • Please note that there should be no pending bills and there will not be any carry forwarding of the existing balance of old service provider to the new one

  • It is possible for you to shift from GSM service to CDMA or vice versa. You can also use MNP for any post-paid as well as pre paid number also.

If you want to change the service provider once again from the newer one to sme other provider, you have to wait for a minimum time of 90 days before doing so.
